Ohio's Minimum Wage to Increase in 2015

Ohio's minimum wage will increase again in 2015. Ohio's minimum wage is tied to inflation and has risen every year since Ohio passed the Ohio Minimum Wage Increase Amendment, also known as Issue 2, in 2006. It is incorporated into the Ohio Constitution at Article II, § 34(a).
In 2015 the minimum wage for a non-tipped employee will rise 15 cents from $7.95 to $8.10 per hour, which is $.85 more per hour than the current federal minimum wage. The 2015 minimum wage for tipped employees will also rise from $3.98 to $4.05, an increase of 7 cents.
Ohio raised its minimum wage in 2014 as well. The increase then was $7.85 to $7.95 for non-tipped employees and $3.93 to $3.98 for tipped employees.
The minimum wage in Ohio is adjusted each year according to the Consumer Price Index fluctuation for urban wage earners and clerical workers during a 12-month period, September through August. This specific CPI rose 1.6 percent from September 1 to August 31 so a minimum wage increase was triggered under the Ohio Minimum Wage Increase Amendment.
In 2015, Ohio's minimum wage laws apply to employees who work for employers with gross receipts of $297,000 or more (for 2014 this amount is $292,000). If an Ohio employer has gross receipts under $297,000 the employer may pay only the federal minimum wage, currently $7.25 per hour, to its employees.
